Non-smokers vs. Smokers

Across the country, public places such as libraries and museums are now smoke- free environments, and restaurants are required to have separate smoking and non- smoking sections. Some smoke- free advocates are now campaigning to ban smoking in all restaurants and bars. Do you think it is a good idea? Why or why not? Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

I believe that it is a good idea to ban all smoking from restaurants and bars, because those who smoke are affecting the healthy lungs of those whom do not smoke. From smoking in restaurants and bars the people around the smokers can develop second hand smoke. Their life can be changed drastically by causing someone who had perfectly healthy lungs to have asthma, bronchitis, colds, pneumonia, and other lung diseases. Secondhand smoke is the third leading preventable cause of disability and early death in the United States. For every eight smokers who die from smoking, one innocent bystander dies from secondhand smoke. It is an issue that could have been avoided by simply banning smoking from inside a restaurant or bar.
You cannot force anyone to stop something they do not want to do. You can also not ban smoking because it will them become concealed like marijuana, since it is illegal, or the prohibition era when alcohol was ban. Many speakeasies, an underground establishment, were created so that people can still get alcoholic drinks illegally. It will be nearly impossible to stop all smokers from smoking. The best resolution would be to have the smoking section outside!
When someone smokes in an enclosed area all of the smoke stays accumulated together and grows. The smoke then begins to cover the whole room. Between 70% and 90% of non-smokers in the American population, children and adults, are regularly exposed to secondhand smoke. It is estimated that only 15% of cigarette smoke gets inhaled by the smoker. The remaining 85% lingers in the air for everyone to breathe. If a person spends more than two hours in a room where someone is smoking, the nonsmoker inhales the equivalent of four cigarettes.
Although there are smoking areas, if it is indoors it will spread into the non- smoking area. If they have all the smoking areas outside the wind will blow the smoke away. Also the areas between the smoking and non- smoking sections are sometimes close together. So the smoke can still bother those who are in the non- smoking section. I agree to ban smoking in restaurants and bars but it’s a violation to the freedom of humans. So the best thing to do is move the smoking section outside and away from everyone.

Athletes Deserve High Compensation?

Today’s top professional athletes often have salaries and bonuses in the tens of millions of dollars. Do you think these athletes deserve such high compensation? Why or why not? Explain your position and use specific reasons and examples.

Personally if I was playing in the big leagues I would love to make tens of millions of dollars myself. But I do not think they deserve such high compensation. Simply, for the fact that they do not do anything, that will help the community or save others. Although they do provide us with entertainment I feel the people that should be making tens of millions of dollars should be the people whom are saving others.
In these scenarios I will leave it to you to decide who should make more money and who deserves it more. First scenario: Your favorite basketball team has had a great season. They made it to playoffs and then passed to the finals. And of course yes they win the finals. The star players all get a ten million dollar bonus on top of what they already make. All they did was run up and down a court and make shots. Anyone can do that. Second scenario: You have gotten in a severe accident and it is a life or death situation. The doctor and his staff are working vigorously to save your life. Just when you thought you wouldn’t make it, the doctor pulls you out of the utter and has given you another chance to live.
A general doctor makes anywhere from about a hundred and fifty- thousand dollars to three hundred thousand dollars. Annually a firefighter makes about sixty- seven thousand dollars. Compared to an athlete they practically make nothing. An athlete cannot save your life all they can do is entertain you. When you are in a bad situation you want the person who is going to help you or save your life to be paid very well. So who would you rather have a high compensation an athlete or a community worker?
